When Covid-19 took over the world, and the entertainment industry came to a screeching halt, my co-workers and I found ourselves not only out of work, but missing the shows we did… the satisfaction in the entertainment that we brought to people.
In March, Jeff Cranfill at Special Event Services began hosting a live show, The Gray Room Sessions, which gave local singer-songwriters and folk musicians an opportunity to perform their original music in front of a beautiful brick wall in the SES warehouse – all for the benefit of the Musicares charity and tips payable to the artists via Venmo or CashApp. I got involved with the project a month or so in once he had enough content for me to edit, and a desire for custom motion graphics.
At that point Dan Medici, with whom I worked on the Luke Combs Tour Visuals, called me with an idea to expand on Jeff’s idea. We would have a live-streamed concert featuring local DJ talent – all benefiting the same two great causes on behalf of local musicians. I never imagined it would have turned into something quite as amazing and involved as it did. We were able to pull together a fantastic rig with the help of SES technicians who volunteered their time, create and manipulate a library of content via Resolume, and video direct the event with a four camera shoot. Two additional cameras were used to conduct interviews with the artists and get amazing photos of the event. It’s so nice to see people coming together to put on something they all believe in.
